Our Approach

“We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.”  (Winston Churchill)

As a young(er) developer, I carried this quote around with me on a post-it note.  This profound statement resonated with me, as it summed up the power of the physical environment on human beings and on me personally.  As an 11-year old girl, having just moved to suburban Orange County from a tight knit community in Los Angeles, I never knew why I suddenly felt so isolated and alone.  It wasn’t until years later in college and planning school, that I realized how the physical environment had such a significant impact on me as a young girl.

I have never taken on the responsibility of being a developer lightly.  I have always been well aware that buildings live on in communities for decades, and they can have a deep and profound impact on people.  I have been faced throughout my life, with the moment when I tell someone that I am a developer.  I can tell from a change in their eyes, facial expression, body language, that they don’t know what or how to think of me now (I seemed like a such a nice person before I revealed this fact).  We all know that reputation, and there is certainly validity to this, depending on the person or developer.

For my entire career, my goal has been to do things differently, be the developer that I believe can exist, one that is able to treat a community’s concerns with care and compassion and develop a building or place that reflects those desires, needs and values, while still creating a financially viable and profitable development.  This is not an easy goal to achieve, and there have been challenges and mistakes made for sure, but it is my north star that I live by in all that I do.
